Alaap
by Ken HuntAlaap provides a practical demonstration of bhangras progress. Founded in 1977 in Southall, their debut album, originally on their own label, focused on traditional Punjabi folk music. Under the influence of producer Deepak Khazanchi and the high energy of disco and rock, Alaaps music went electric and employed drum machines. Later albums took religious themes (Shabe Ghat Ram Bole) or paired them with guests such as Asha Bhosie (Chham Chham Machdi Phiran) and Anuradha Paudwal (Na Dil Mang Ve).
