Evan McHugh

Singer and songwriter. Graphic designer. Lego master. Calvin & Hobbes connoisseur. Ping Pong guru. Part-time Ninja Turtle. Preacher’s kid. Middle child.

Shy child Evan McHugh didnt start playing/singing/writing until his late teens, prompted by a chance spin of "Cathedrals" by Jump Little Children one night on the radio. It’s at that moment that he threw himself in wholeheartedly, regaling his family with erroneous Dave Matthews riffs late into the night, stealing his older sister’s Weezer CD (the blue one – she never got it back), and haunting the record store to catch up on the melodic stylings of Elliot Smith, Nick Drake, Ella Fitzgerald, and Jeff Buckley.

Fast-forward 10 years, and he’s more than made up for a leisurely start. That shy child is now living and working from Nashville, a prolific songwriter who now regularly turns out pop ballads, future hits and his own brand of sweet but insightful music with concrete perspective. His stage act is nothing to sniff at, either, with low-key charm and subtle humor that you may miss if you’re not tuned in closely. This has led to performing alongside such acts as The Indigo Girls, The Avett Brothers, Shawn Mullins and even Glen Campbell for his most recent CD Release at The Troubadour in Los Angeles.

Evan has also co-written with such veterans as Tyrone Wells, Matthew Perryman Jones and a slew of others in Nashville, New York and Los Angeles—and seen a number of his songs released on other great records.

He has recently been back in the studio to co-produce a new EP with Brad Jones (Josh Rouse, David Mead), entitled "Lets Be Young." The release is set for September 17th, and promises to lighten your day with a newly-found pop proclivity.
