Alison Wonderland
Recently having one of her sets described by Annie Mac as "the best party set i've heard in a long time" the wide-eyed, dodo racing, rabbit chasing girl of Lewis Carol's opium induced fantasies has officially been superseded.
This Alison didn't fall down anything; she jumped head first down the rabbit hole and landed straight on the decks.
Armed with turntables, a killer vibe and an open mind, Alison turns countless dance floors across Australia into your favourite kind of Wonderland: more beats, less croquet.
But it hasn't been a walk down easy street. As a "five-foot-one little blonde girl" in what's largely still a boys' club, she's had to work hard to silence the cynics.
"Some people say it's easy to get gigs if you're a female and yeah it can be, but at the end of the day, if you can't mix and you're just there to look pretty, that's as far as you'll get and you won't earn anyone's respect."
Beginning with a background in indie and classical, Wonderland's best card is her eclecticism. Throughout her youth she toured Europe as a principal cellist for the Sydney Youth Orchestra and later played bass in a successful local indie band.
With an insatiable appetite for new music, a night could see her chew through the best of disco, indie, hip hop, house, baltimore and everything in between. So Grandmaster Flash mixed into The Cure? Run DMC into Adele? Sure, why not – it's all fair play.
Wonderland has performed in Ibiza at Pacha, Ibiza Rocks, Mambo and Ministry of Sound in London. In Australiashe has graced the stage at Splendour in the Grass, Stereosonic, Field Day, Parklife, Good Vibrations Festvial, Harbourlife, Sydney Fashion WEek, Future Music Festival, Coaster Festival, Secret Garden Festival, Harbour Party, Conception Day and more, not to mention consistently headlining a bevy of the top clubs around the country.
Her latest feat- Securing a global recording contract with EMI Music on the back of her outstanding performances during the She Can Dj competition.
Scott Horscroft VP A&R EMI Australasia spoke about Alison Wonderland's additional signing, "...Alison Wonderland's skills and passion for music was so impressive throughout the entire She Can DJ program. Watching her creativity shine in the recording studio and drawing on her deep knowledge of music production and performance she defined herself as an undeniable talent and unique artist."
Wonderland is the party, rumour has it she never sleeps and is reasonably good friends with Oprah.
