Jef Stott
has been deftly navigating the realms of world fusion music for over a decade, where he has consistently been at the forefront of the International Global Bass movement. He is releasing his 10th full length studio production ARCANA in April 2012 on Six Degrees records. His sound is a conscious inspired blend of the highly articulated electronica compositions fused with the mystery and depth of an inner ethnography. He works and performs with master musicians and dancers from the Middle East, Northern Africa, the Balkans and India. Jef is also a highly accomplished multi instrumentalist adding a live performance element to his live shows with Arabic string and percussion instruments, guitars, bass and live dub effects.
An in demand performer, Jef Stott has embarked on several world tours that have taken him to Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Canada, New York, Miami, Austin Portland, LA and SF sharing the stage with contemporaries Thievery Corporation, Bass Nectar, Nickodemus, Gaudi, Makyo, Cheb I Sabbah, Beats Antique, David Starfire, Bobby Friction, FreQ Nasty, Janaka Selecta, Dub Gabriel, Kush Arora among others.
Jef has recently become the Hookahdome (premiere Burning Man soundcamp) artistic director and main DJ for events on and off the playa.
As a trained anthropologist, he has made an in depth academic study of the instruments of the Middle East with master teachers including Hamza el Din, Omar Faruk Tekbilek among others.
As a producer and composer, he has released many full length albums with Stellamara, Lumin, MC RAI and Qadim as well as many remixes including Azam Ali, David Starfire, Gaudi, Cemali, Adham Shaikh, Akara, Atash, among others.
His work has been released on several major labels including Universal, EMI, Six Degrees, Hearts of Space, Triloka and City of Tribes.
He writes regularly for network and cable television, stage, video game and feature film. His latest release is Saracen from Six Degrees Records.
He is has recently completed a Masters Degree in Interactive Media. His thesis project The Subtle Body is a multimedia interactive installation and research project that uses the electromagnetic energy from the human brain and body to control audio and visual media.
